This year has proven to be one of new and innovative power plants for boats of all kinds. From Mercury Racing’s new 400HP outboards to Seven Marine’s enormous 627HP outboard. There has also been advancements in outdrive technology with Volvo Penta’s new Forward Drive that is changing the way watersports enthusiasts are enjoying their time on the water.
Gone are the days of having to fill and drain ballast bags to get the wake you need and the uncomfortable rides from one part of the lake to the other with a boat full of ballast. With Forward Drive there is a new and comfortable way to create just the wake you need and still have a smooth, comfortable and fast trip across the lake. By facing the outdrive forwards and fitting it with counter rotating dual props Volvo Penta has literally turned the outdrive world around.
By simply adjusting the trim the stern can be made to squat deeper in the water acting as if a ballast bag has been filled creating the desired wake and with just a push of the trim button the boat can return to a cruising stance allowing for a comfortable and efficient ride whenever desired.
There are added benefits to having the drive face forwards. The props are well and truly under the boat so approaching the boat from the water is safer. Handling is improved allowing for tighter high speed turns and better handling overall and exhaust is sent through the drive underwater eliminating fumes.
As more boat manufacturers start taking on this unusual looking outdrive, and as the ever-increasing popularity of wake surfing spreads it will become a commonplace site on the lake. See for yourself how easy it is and how well it works at http://www.volvopentaforwarddrive.com.
