Boating & Paddling Gift Guide

Finding that perfect gift for the one who loves to be on, in or around the water can be difficult. Our editors have scoured all kinds of trade shows this year and have come up with a few ideas that might just be the perfect gift. They are all available from local vendors, online and through big box box retailers such as

The Fusion Stereoactive portable marine stereo system can provide audiophile quality sound to anyone on the water in a compact waterproof form that requires no holes or drilling to mount. As equally at home on the front of a paddleboard or at the help of a larger craft, the portable stereo is more than just a Bluetooth speaker. While able to stream all your music from your smartphone it also has an AM/FM tuner as well as Weatherband radio (for North America Only). If you would rather listen to your favorite tunes via a USB flash drive, there is a waterproof cavity that will enable that too. With high end audio via a custom designed system and amplifier the sound is not what is expected from such a compact stereo. It has large tactile controls on top that can easily be manipulated with the tough of a paddle or your hand and can give audio indication of the button touched. Attached to any hard surface via an included puck the stereo simply locks onto the puck and is easily removed via a latch. There is an optional dry box that latches to the bottom of the stereo and then in turn to the mounting puck that enables you to keep your phone dry and safe while transmitting to the stereo. There is even a spot to mount your action cam. Should it fall in the water this waterproof system even floats so it would be easy to retrieve. By downloading the appropriate app you can remotely control it from your smart device or smart watch. Powered by an internal rechargeable lithium battery it can provide up to 20 hours of use. Available with blue, white or red trim the Stereoactive can be a great gift for under $300.

For those that want a confortable way to relax and enjoy their time by the water why not look at one of an array of new air loungers or “wind hammocks” on the market. These are not inflatable loungers unlike an air mattress but rather an air filled lounger that is easy to fill and easy to store. Made of a denier rip-stop nylon the Wind Pouch fills with air without the need for a pump and can hold air for up to 6-8 hours. It provides a versatile and extremely comfortable lounger that is as at home on deck or on the beach. Available in a variety of color these loungers are an affordable and comfortable way of enjoying a hammock like experience minus the two requisite trees. Available for under $50 you may just have to get two or there may be a fight for who gets to use it.
